The microvine provides new perspectives for research on berry physiology
Abstract
The berry developmental cycle was studied in a microvine parental line (L1) as well as in a segregating population of 130 genotypes (microvine x ugni blanc). Major solutes of oenological interest such as malic and tartaric acid, glucose, fructose, proline and potassium were analyzed. Gene expression profile was evaluated in post-véraison berries using Nimbelgen® microarrays.
The analysis of the developmental and molecular parameters validated the microvine as a model system for accelerated researches on berry development and physiology. Moreover, the small size of dwarf plants is a determinant advantage for experiments in climatic chambers.
