French regulations related to vineyard spraying and examples of devices developed in France and around the world to limit the risks of point-source pollution

Abstract

Managing pests in vineyards presents a major challenge for winegrowers, who are seeking effective solutions to control diseases and pests. Under the influence of media pressure and environmental regulations, spraying practices have become more professional. In France, the application of phytosanitary products is governed by an initial decree from 2006 and supplementary texts, imposing restrictions on untreated zones near watercourses, protecting workers, setting deadlines before harvest, reintegrating operators, and requiring protective equipment. Additionally, to reduce diffuse pollution, regulations take into account weather conditions and impose untreated zones.

Regarding the risks of point-source pollution during the filling and washing of sprayers, specific legislation governs these operations. Thus, French regulations particularly focus on the design of storage facilities and the treatment of phytosanitary effluents, including on-site rinsing and the use of devices approved by the Ministry of Ecology. The main methods, also used in other countries, are based on physicochemical principles, evaporation, or biological degradation, and can be applied individually or collectively, or through a service provider.

Réglementation française liée à la pulvérisation viticole et exemples de dispositifs développés en France et dans le monde pour limiter les risques de pollutions ponctuelles

Résumé. La gestion des parasites dans les vignes constitue un défi majeur pour les viticulteurs, qui recherchent des solutions efficaces pour contrôler les maladies et les ravageurs. Sous l’influence de la pression médiatique et des réglementations environnementales, les pratiques de pulvérisation se sont professionnalisées. En France, l’application des produits phytosanitaires est régie par un décret initial de 2006 et des textes complémentaires, imposant des restrictions sur les zones non traitées à proximité des cours d’eau, protégeant les travailleurs, fixant des délais avant récolte, la réintégration des opérateurs, et exigeant des équipements de protection. De plus, pour réduire la pollution diffuse, la réglementation prend en compte les conditions météorologiques et impose des zones non traitées.

En ce qui concerne les risques de pollutions ponctuelles lors du remplissage et du lavage des pulvérisateurs, une législation spécifique encadre ces opérations. Ainsi, la réglementation française se concentre particulièrement sur la conception des locaux de stockage et le traitement des effluents phytosanitaires, incluant le rinçage sur place et l’utilisation de dispositifs approuvés par le ministère de l’Écologie. Les principales méthodes, également utilisées dans d’autres pays, reposent sur des principes physico-chimiques, l’évaporation ou la dégradation biologique, pouvant être appliquées de manière individuelle ou collective, ou par l’intermédiaire d’un prestataire de services.
