Rules of ethical conduct
At IVES, scientific integrity is one of our fundamental values. To ensure transparency, fairness and trust throughout the editorial process, we have established a set of rules of ethical conduct that apply to the publication of scientific and technical articles in OENO One and IVES Technical Reviews.
These rules outline:
- The general ethical principles derived from the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity (ALLEA, 2023),
- A list of critical rules that must be strictly followed by editors-in-chief (EiC), associate editors (AE) and reviewers (RW) during the manuscript evaluation process.
| Applied by | |||
| Critical rules | EiC | AE | RW |
| EiC, AE and RW must not be co-authors of the submitted manuscript. | x | x | x |
| AE and RW must not be affiliated with the same institution as the authors. | x | x | |
| In the case where there is a potential conflict of interest, the review process must be modified. For example, editors should consider the conflict-of-interest declaration from AE/RW and reassign the manuscript if necessary. | x | x | |
| EiC or AE must provide an explanation to the authors in the case of a “desk rejection”. | x | x | |
| The editorial decision must be based on at least two reviews (except in the case of a “desk rejection”). | x | ||
| Any decisions on the original manuscript (concluding the first review round) must be supported by an explanation. | x | ||
| From the second review round, any decisions (except acceptance as is) must also include an explanatory statement. | x | ||
| Disrespectful, degrading and impolite comments (including insults) are prohibited. | x | x | x |
These rules are designed to prevent conflicts of interest and uphold responsible peer review practices. If the editorial treatment of a manuscript breaches any of these critical ethical rules, it will be suspended pending a decision by the IVES Executive Committee.
By adhering to these standards, IVES reaffirms its commitment to publishing high-quality, trustworthy, and ethically reviewed scientific and technical content.
These rules were adopted by vote during the 9th General Assembly of IVES held on 5 February 2025.
