Socioeconomic impact of the LIFE Climawin project from the perspective of employees

Abstract

This study examines, from the perspective of the employees at Bosque de Matasnos—a demonstrative winery participating in the LIFE Climawin project—the socioeconomic impact and potential contributions of the initiative to the wine sector and the sustainable development of the Ribera del Duero region in Spain. The project, which focuses on climate change mitigation and the implementation of sustainable agricultural practices, is analyzed through the experiences and engagement of those directly involved in its execution. The findings demonstrate that sustainability, when approached holistically and communicated effectively, functions as a catalyst for transformative change that extends beyond corporate performance. It facilitates the articulation of responses to pressing social and environmental challenges within the territory and reinforces the wine sector’s role in promoting local economic revitalization. The results indicate an increasing awareness of climate change among employees, alongside a strong willingness to adopt sustainable practices both professionally and personally. The study further underscores the strategic relevance of internal communication as a key mechanism for enhancing worker engagement and fostering a sense of shared purpose and identity. Through this analysis, the potential of the LIFE Climawin project is underscored—not only to advance environmental sustainability, but also to position the winery and its surrounding context as a model of social and economic innovation in the Ribera del Duero region.

Impacto socioeconómico del proyecto LIFE Climawin desde la visión de los empleados

Resumen. Este estudio analiza, desde la perspectiva de los trabajadores de Bosque de Matasnos, bodega demostrativa del proyecto LIFE Climawin, el impacto socioeconómico y su potencial aportación al sector vitivinícola y al desarrollo sostenible de la comarca Ribera del Duero (España). El proyecto, enfocado en la mitigación del cambio climático y la implementación de prácticas agrícolas sostenibles, ha sido analizado desde la visión y el compromiso de las personas que participan directamente en su ejecución. La investigación revela cómo la sostenibilidad, cuando se entiende de manera integral y se comunica eficazmente, se convierte en un motor de cambio que trasciende los resultados empresariales, permite abordar los retos sociales y medioambientales del territorio, y favorece una contribución más intensa del sector vitivinícola a la dinamización de la economía local. Los resultados muestran una creciente conciencia sobre el cambio climático entre los empleados y una disposición significativa a adoptar medidas sostenibles tanto en el ámbito laboral como personal. Además, se subraya el papel crucial de la comunicación interna como elemento esencial para fortalecer la implicación y el sentido de pertenencia de los trabajadores. A través de este análisis, se destaca que el proyecto LIFE Climawin, además de contribuir a la sostenibilidad ambiental, tiene el potencial de transformar la bodega y su entorno en un modelo de innovación social y económica en la Ribera del Duero.
