Ripening of Mencía grape cultivar in different edaphoclimatic situations (D.O. Ribeira Sacra, Spain)

Abstract

Ribeira Sacra is a Spanish Denominación de Origen (D.O.) for wines, located in Galicia, NW Spain. The vineyards are planted on the valleys of the rivers Miño and Sil. The area is divided into five sub-zones with different edaphoclimatic characteristics: Chantada, Amandi Ribeiras do Miño, Ribeiras do Sil-Ourense and Quiroga-Bibei.
The wines from D.O. Ribeira Sacra are typically young red wines produced with Mencía grape variety. During eight years (2002-2009) we have analyzed the chemical parameters that determine the quality of the grape during the ripening process of Mencía grape in the different subzones. The results showed the influence of terroir on the Mencía grapes composition.

Making sense of a sense of place: precision viticulture approaches to the analysis of terroir at different scales

Agriculture, natural resource management and the production and sale of products such as wine are increasingly data-driven activities. Thus, the use of remote and proximal crop and soil sensors to aid management decisions is becoming commonplace and ‘Agtech’ is proliferating commercially; mapping, underpinned by geographical information systems and complex methods of spatial analysis, is widely used…

Cover crops competition for water in vineyards: case studies in mediterranean terroirs

Vineyard cover cropping is a cultural practice widely used in many of the world’s winegrowing regions being one of the most recommended practices to face climate changes and to promote vineyard environmental sustainability.

Observatoire Grenache en Vallée du Rhône: incidence du terroir sur la composition polyphénolique des raisins et des vins

The Grenache observatory was created in 1995. The object of this 24 parcels network, covering main Rhone Valley soils, is to state the effect of pedo-climatic conditions on plant physiology and wine characteristics. The results concerning colour and tanins show a very important diversity in Grenache behaviour.

Aromatic characterization of Moscato Giallo by GC-MS/MS and stable isotopic ratio analysis of the major volatile compounds

Among the Moscato grapes, Moscato Giallo is a winegrape variety characterized by a high content of free and glycosylated monoterpenoids, which gives very aromatic wines. The aromatic bouquet of Moscato Giallo is strongly influenced by the high concentration of linalool, geraniol, linalool oxides, limonene, α-terpineol, citronellol, HO-trienol, HO-diols, 8-Hydroxylinalool, geranic acid and β-myrcene, that give citrus, rose, and peach notes.

Preliminary studies of zoning applications in Goriška Brda (Collio) winegrowing region, Slovenia
