Successful training on responsible wine consumption in Germany

Abstract

Vocational school seminars on “Wine consumption between enjoyment and risk” are part of the German implementation of the international prevention programme Wine in Moderation. In addition to basic information on legal issues, such as applicable laws (Youth Protection Act, alcohol regulation in road traffic), the seminars also provide self-regulatory rules of wine advertising as well as health effects of the use and abuse of alcoholic beverages in general and wine in particular. By means of questionnaires on the basic knowledge of the vocational students, the knowledge was assessed before the seminar (T1), immediately afterwards (T2) and about 6 months later (T3). The results of the last three years, as well as those of previous years, speak for the sustainable success of these information events.

OmicBots – An innovative and intelligent multi-omics platform facing wine sector challenges

To face emerging competition and challenges, wine producers globally rely on precision viticulture (PV) solutions to boost productivity, enhance quality, increase profitability, and reduce the environmental impact of vineyards. Current pv methods predominantly use multispectral sensor data from several platforms (satellites or vineyard installations). However, these applications generally use data analysis strategies lacking physiological grapevine support.

Transforming the grapevine world through new breeding techniques

Climate change and environmental degradation are existential threats to europe and the world. One of the most important objectives is to reduce by 2030 the use and the risk of chemical pesticides and fertilisers, reducing nutrient losses and increasing organic farming. Grapevine (vitis spp.) is one of the major and most economically important fruit crops worldwide. It is characterised by high levels of genetic diversity, as result of natural genetic mutations, which are common in grapevines and further assisted by ongoing vegetative propagation.

Technical innovation and quality control of wine production in China

Recent decades have witnessed an evolving trend of diverse product types, improved quality, and green, low-carbon, and sustainable development in chinese wine market. A quality evaluation system, namely, with a dual orientation of “flavor compounds” and “sensory evaluation” is used as guidance for winemaking innovation in China.
