Vine responses to two irrigation systems in the region of Vinhos Verdes

Abstract

In this work we try to know the influence of two irrigation systems (Drip and Micro – jet ) with the same levels of water applied in an experimental vineyard in the region of Felgueiras.
At present we must say that there are not significant differences between the modalities in 1996, when we refer the yield and the pruning weight by vine. In 1998, we modified slightly the trial because there were troubles with some vines of one treatment. In 1999, we verified large significant differences among the modalities relatively to the pruning weight by vine but there were not significant differences at the yield/vine.
At the moment we do not have enough results about the relations quality of wine and amounts of water applied to the soil and their form of administration. So, we cannot conclude definitively about these two systems of irrigation and their levels of water applied. However, we can say that the treatment «Drip 100%Etm» did not show good results up to now.

Nucleophilic fraction to estimate the antioxidant activity of inactivated yeast derivates

Oxidation in wine is mostly related to the Michael addition of nucleophiles on two quinones formed from the oxidation of ortho-diphenols. In wine this mechanism is responsible for the increase of the yellow hue and aroma loss. Grapevine productivity modelling in the Portuguese Douro Region

In Portugal, and particularly in the Demarcated Region of Douro (DDR), wine production has a great tradition, producing the unique and worldwide famous Port wine as well as other remarkably good table wines. In this study the impact of projected climate change to wine production is analysed for the DDR. A statistical grapevine yield model (GYM) is developed using climate parameters as predictors.

An effective approach to mitigating ochratoxin A (OTA) levels in wine with minor impact on wine quality

OTA occurrence in wine is well-documented, with higher levels typically found in red (< 0.01-7.63 μg/l), followed by rose (0.01-2.40 μg/l) and white wine (<0.01-1.72 μg/l). Incidence rates are nOTAble, with studies showing OTA present in 53% of 521 red wines, 69% of 98 rose, and 61% of 301 white wines analysed. In europe, wine is estimated to be the second source of OTA intake after cereals. Since 2006, the maximum allowable limit for OTA in wine is 2 μg/l, according to regulation (ec) no. 1881/2006.

The jurist feels like an intruder when talking about terroirs. He looks at the press and tries to understand. We can read there about the cooking festival of May 30, 1996 which “..highlights products whose quality depends on a region”, that Camembert du pays d’Auge is the only one to be protected, I was thinking of camembert from Normandy, that 80% of Greek feta is made in the Netherlands, I thought it was in Denmark, and that the European Community protects geographical indications of IGP origin, probably a new category replacing the indications protected areas (1). I also learned that distributors are asking for more local products because “they come to confuse the cards in the part engaged with the big brands”. Carrefour has its “Terroirs and drawers”, Prisunic its “Vent d’Ouest”, Intermarché “Les bouquets du terroir”, Monoprix “Les terroirs de France” (2), Promodés and its brand “Reflets de France” for the “Continent” hypermarkets (3). At the same time it is asserted that “The term is a mere common noun. Unprotectable and therefore unprotected” (4).

Distribution and associated symptoms of grapevine trunk pathogens in South Africa

In recent studies, several grapevine trunk pathogen complexes have been identified from grapevines in South Africa. These pathogens include Eutypa lata, Phaeomoniella chlamydospora, Phaeoacremonium sp., Botryosphaeria sp. and Phomopsis sp. Trunk diseases lead to reduced yield, and grape quality as well as a decline
