Evaluation of spraying effects of plant protection unmanned aerial vehicle on two different training systems of vine in Northeast China

Abstract

In recent years, the application of plant protection unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in agricultural pest control has become more and more popular. However, there are few reports about the application of plant protection UAV for wine grapes, and there are no studies comparing the spraying effect of plant protection UAV with that of manual operation in vineyards. In this context, the objective of this study was to explore the feasibility of using plant protection UAV in vineyards instead of manual operations by evaluating the effectiveness of UAV spray in two common grape training systems in Northeast China. The training systems were vertical shoot positioning (VSP) and y-shaped, and water sensitive test paper (WSTP) was used to evaluate the spray effects. For each training system, the effects of the spraying methods on droplet diameter, droplet area and droplet density of WSTP were investigated, respectively. Meanwhile, it should be noted that the position of a leaf in the canopy and the side of leaf also affect the spraying quality, and they may interact with spraying methods. Therefore, 3 factors were evaluated in the study: spraying method [3 levels: UAV spray once (abbreviated as USO), UAV spray twice (abbreviated as UST) and manual spray (abbreviated as MS)], canopy height (3 levels: upper canopy, middle canopy and lower canopy) and side of leaf (2 levels: leaf front and leaf back). Statistical methods such as three-factor anova and simple effects analysis were used to detect significant differences. The results showed that, for VSP training system, the area of droplets of UST was always the highest, though the uniformity and penetration of droplets of USO and UST were better. For y-shaped training system, UST showed no statistical differences in droplet area compared to UST, and even USO was comparable to UST on leaf back of all levels of canopy height in this respect. Moreover, both USO and UST had lower droplet diameter, higher droplet density, and better uniformity and penetration than UST. The current research indicate that UAV spray was not very suitable for VSP training system. However, for y-shaped training system, UAV spray might be a good alternative to UST, since it is safe and saves cost by reducing labor, time, and the dosage of pesticide or foliar fertilizer.

Emosensory profile and chemical characterization of wine vinegar from the Douro and Rioja demarcated regions

Wine vinegars have a tangy flavor and are versatile in cooking. They’ve been used since the neolithic period and are now used as microbial inhibitors and acidifiers. They’re low in calories, have antioxidants, and have a long shelf life, but quality may decrease after opening. The objective of this study focuses on the physical-chemical, sensory, and emotional characterization of wine vinegar samples from the douro demarcated region and la rioja. In total, 22 samples of wine vinegar were analyzed at the time of opening.

Assessing the benefits of irrigation access: the case of Southern France vineyards

Agriculture worldwide is threatened by climate change. In particular, declining water resource availability combined with increasing water demand is a key challenge in many rainfed areas, where irrigation appears to be a straightforward adaptation option. In this context, assessing the impacts of irrigation adoption on farm yields and incomes is a necessary step to reflect on the impact of both ex-post and ex-ante policies.

Health space in vine spa in the world

This elaboration presents vine spa has precious contribution of social development health and well being in culture of wine regions. The majority of the vine-spas in the world draw raw materials from the vineyard; both for cosmetics treatments and for dishes in their restaurants. Vitis vinifera vine provides fresh grapes for dishes and massages, seeds and oil from the seeds, as well as the leaves, and its extracts, and above all the wine.

Reviewing the geometry of terraces in the Douro region towards sustainable viticulture

The Douro demarcated region constitutes just over 50% of the area of mountain vineyard in the world, i.e., vineyards with slope gradients of 30% or above. Among the different (terraced) vineyard layouts, the formerly preferred wider terraces supporting two rows of vines and the currently advocated narrower single vine row, dominate the vineyards’ planting layout. The slope of these terraces, in other words, the supporting earth ramp, is a key element in these vineyards’ construction.

An analysis of wine geographical indications from the perspective of the theory of industrial organizations: what are the trade off?

From Porto and then through Bordeaux, Champagne and Bourgogne, wine geographical indications (gi) were the driving models for this form of protection of distinctive signs for collective use. Many studies present the benefits of recognizing a gi for a given region, the challenges of its implementation, as well as the possibilities of promoting territorial development.
