The author presents the geographical position of Romania as a vine-growing European country and analyses its relief and climate as factors of paramount importance for vine-growing environments. The climatogram system and the oenoclimatic aptitude index are applied in an analysis of the climatic characteristics of the Romanian vine-growing reg ions.

Natural factors of the production (“terroir” and vintage) are known as an important element for identifying wines by their genuine typicité and their authenticity. The program “Terroirs d’Anjou” (1994-1999) aims at bringing the necessary scientific basis for a rational and reasoned exploitation of the terroir.

ln 1997, twenty six cultivation sites of cv. Muscat of Alexandria different for pedological conditions, altitude and exposition were selected through ail Pantelleria isle. ln each site, described and classified according to USDA Soil Taxonony and FAO Soil Classification methods, grapes, collected at technological ripening, were microvinificated, following a standard procedure which allowed to obtain the naturally sweet wine DOC Moscato di Pantelleria. Wines, five months after vinification, were analysed by gaschromatography.

Il Barbera rappresenta sicuramente uno dei più importanti vitigni autoctoni del Piemonte occupando circa il 50% della superficie vitata regionale. Esso è ancora diffuso su un’area molto vasta, che si estende per oltre 200.000 ha, dando origine a diverse produzioni vinicole tutelate da denominazioni d’origine.
